문화행사 소개

대중문화 속에서 퍼져나가는 5.18 민주화운동 (2019년-39주년)

오늘(18일)은 5.18 광주민주화운동 39주년이다.

그간 대중문화계에서는 노래나 작품 등을 통해 5.18을 알리며 민주화영령의 넋을 기렸다. 그 중 대표적인 것이 방탄소년단(BTS)이다.

 

지난 2015년 방탄소년단이 발표한 앨범 '화양연화 파트2'에 수록된 '마 시티(Ma City)'라는 곡은 멤버들이 각자 자란 도시에 대해 이야기하는 가사다.

광주 출신인 제이홉은 이 노래에 '7시'와 '062-518'을 언급한다.

"나 전라남도 광주 베이비(baby), 날 볼라면 시간은 7시 모여 집합, 모두다 눌러라 062-518…"

여기서 7시란 광주의 지도상 위치가 7시 방향이라는 이유로 극우 사이트에서 광주를 비하 할때 쓰는 단어다. 062는 광주의 지역번호, 5.18은 광주민주화운동을 의미한다.

지난해 5월 한 ARMY(방탄소년단 팬)가 이 같은 내용과 함께 5.18을 자세히 소개하는 글을 SNS에 올렸고, 이 글이 퍼져나가며 전세계 팬들이 5.18의 아픈 역사를 공부하고 알게 됐다.
